MGG Online

Die ganze Bandbreite der Musik

MGG Online wurde von den Verlagen Bärenreiter und J. B. Metzler in Zusammenarbeit mit Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale (RILM) entwickelt. Die Datenbank beinhaltet den vollständigen Inhalt der zweiten Ausgabe der MGG, dem maßgebenden Referenzwerk für die Musikwissenschaft seit 1949, sowie eine kontinuierlich wachsende Zahl an neuen Stichwörtern als auch an aktualisierten und neu verfassten Artikeln. Als Generalherausgeber der MGG Online konzipiert Prof. Dr. Laurenz Lütteken zusammen mit der von den Verlagen eingerichteten Redaktion und einem international besetzten Beirat alle inhaltlichen Updates.

MGG Online umfasst den Inhalt der zweiten Ausgabe der MGG mit über 19.000 Artikeln:

Der Personenteil umfasst über 18.000 Artikel zu Personen aller Kontinente, zu Komponisten und Komponistinnen, zu Interpreten, Sängern und Musiktheoretikern. Zahlreiche Artikel aus dem Bereich Jazz und Pop, zu Dichtern, Ensembles, Verlagen, Instrumentenbauern, Librettisten, Philosophen, Musikwissenschaftlern und Regisseuren runden das Bild ab.
Der Sachteil umfasst circa 1.300 Artikel zu Epochen, Ländern, Regionen und Städten, Quellen, Gattungen und Instrumenten. Darüberhinaus enthält er Artikel zu Institutionen (u.a. Bibliotheken), zur Musikikonographie und zu Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Musik und anderen Künsten. Einzigartig sind vor diesem Hintergrund die Artikel, die die Beziehung zwischen Musik und Geschichte, Kunst, Literatur, Philosophie, Recht, den Naturwissenschaften u.a. diskutieren.

Kontinuierliche Updates

Die Verlage Bärenreiter und J.B. Metzler sind für den Inhalt der MGG Online verantwortlich; sie garantieren, dass die MGG weiterhin umfassend und maßgebend bleiben wird.

Seit dem Launch im November 2016 wurden zahlreiche neue Stichwörter aus den Bereichen Populäre Musik, Jazz, Komponisten und Interpreten der Gegenwart, Gesangssolisten, Neue Medien, USA, Kanada, Filmmusik, Musikpädagogik und Musikwissenschaftler aufgenommen. Zudem wurden Hunderte von Artikeln aktualisiert oder von international anerkannten Wissenschaftlern neu geschrieben.
