Finale with a world premiere: the Mahler-Scartazzini cycle is complete
5 June 2025 is the date. In the Volkshaus Jena, the Adagio from Mahler’s 10th Symphony will be played first, followed by all ten compositions by Andrea Lorenzo Scartazzini – including the premiere of the last piece, “Einkehr” for soprano, alto, chorus and orchestra. The short movements which relate to Mahler’s symphonies have been composed over the last seven years whilst the Swiss composer was Composer in Residence to the Jena Philharmonic. “Einkehr” is a setting of the first verse of Hölderlin’s elegy “Brot und Wein”. The poem evokes images of a city which comes to rest, of the day which ends, of silence and reflection. The Jena Philharmonic performs once more, conducted by Simon Gaudenz. The chorus parts are sung by the Jenaer Madrigalkreis, and the solo parts by Nina Koufochristou (soprano) and Evelyn Krahe (alto). A crowning conclusion!
