New Publications 2/2026

Dear Sir or Madam,
Dear colleagues,

Once again, Beethoven occupies a central place in the musical calendar. After the anniversary year in 2020 marking the 250th birthday of this great master— where celebrations could only take place on a limited scale due to the Covid pandemic — the musical world will turn its attention to him once more in 2027: this time, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his death on 26 March. For many years now, Bärenreiter has been publishing his symphonies, concertos, chamber music, piano works and choral music in Urtext performing editions. In November, the complete piano sonatas with fingering by Marc-André Hamelin will be completed.

The highlight of our new publications for the second half of 2026 is “Ein deutsches Requiem” by Johannes Brahms, one of the few major choral-orchestral masterpieces not yet included in the Bärenreiter catalogue. This comprehensive edition by Michael Ostrzyga offers a scholarly reliable musical text, clearly laid out and consistently designed with practical performance needs in mind.

I would like to add a personal note. This New Publications Bulletin is the last one which I will be bringing to your attention, as I will retire on 1 July. For 35 years I have overseen the publisher’s press relations, forged many valuable contacts, and encountered a great level of interest in everything that defines Bärenreiter, far beyond its new publications. A third of a century is a long time! When I started in Kassel, there was no internet, no email, no smartphones. How did we ever manage to work without these technologies …? I would like to thank you for the excellent collaboration over all these years.

With warm regards and my very best wishes for you and for the world of classical music in these turbulent times.
