Competition in Telemann’s birthplace
Bärenreiter supports the Telemann Competition in Magdeburg with sheet music vouchers
The 13th International Telemann Competition held in Magdeburg, Georg Philipp Telemann’s birthplace, has come to a close. For the first time this competition was held in two categories. In the category historical string instruments, 31 musicians participated, while 11 international ensembles competed in the final round of the chamber music ensemble category. The winners in the historical string instrument category are: 1st Prize/“Mitteldeutsche Barockmusik” prize: Thomas Fields (USA, viola da gamba), 2nd Prize: Anna Maddalena Ghielmi (Italy, baroque violin), 3rd Prize: Ayano Shigematsu (Japan, baroque violin). In the chamber music ensembles category, the following ensembles were awarded prizes: 1st Prize/“Mitteldeutsche Barockmusik” prize: Ensemble Zulèia, 2nd Prize: Barque Ensemble, 3rd Prize: Ensemble Il Corisino.
The Bärenreiter Urtext Prizes consisting of vouchers for sheet music went to Marguerite Wassermann (Switzerland, baroque violin, on the photo with Johannes Mundry from Bärenreiter) and the Lotus Ensemble (photo) with Sebastian Schmidt (recorder), Andreas Stöger (recorder), Moeko Aiba (baroque cello), and Haeun Cho (harpsichord).
The competition jury was chaired by flautist and conductor Barthold Kuijken.
