Digital Editions
General information on purchases of digital editions
When you purchase a digital edition, you don’t buy a physical product but rather a pdf which you are authorized to use under the conditions specified below.
The procedure of ordering a digital edition in the Bärenreiter webstore differs from ordering a printed edition only in that you can order digital editions only directly with the publisher. This also applies to mixed orders of printed and digital editions. In these cases, it is not possible to choose a retailer as a supplier.
How can I purchase a digital title?
The purchasing procedure is the same as when you buy a printed edition. You place the product in the shopping cart and run through the regular process described in the following.
Can I purchase digital and printed editions at the same time?
Yes. You can purchase digital and printed editions in one order. Once you have completed your order, the printed editions will be despatched and the digital editions are immediately at your disposal via download links.
If you register yourself in our webstore before you place your order, you will also find the download links in your customer account.
How do I get an invoice?
You will receive the invoice for your digital editions by e-mail. In the case of a mixed order, you will likewise receive an invoice for the printed editions which will also be sent by e-mail and additionally be enclosed with the delivery as a printed copy.
Can I cancel the purchase of a download product?
No. During the purchase of digital editions, you agree that the publisher will begin executing the contract (= providing the download links) before the expiration of the cancellation period, and thus your right of cancellation for the digital editions will expire. The right of withdrawal for the purchase of printed titles purchased in the same ordering process, on the other hand, remains valid.
Can I purchase digital product without a customer account?
Yes. You can order digital editions as a guest. However, after leaving the Bärenreiter website you will have the download links only in the e-mail which you will have received from us. If you register yourself in our webstore before you place your order, you will also find the download links in your customer account.
Why are there minimum order quantities for digital editions?
A minimum order quantity also applies to the digital versions of editions that are usually required in larger numbers, such as choral scores and string parts. For these editions, an appropriate number of copies must be purchased, and the minimum order quantity must not be undercut.
To which e-mail address will the download link be sent?
The download link will always be sent to the invoice address, meaning the e-mail address with which you have registered yourself in our webstore.
I am not receiving a download link. What can I do?
If you have ordered and paid for a digital edition, but you have not received a download link, please check your spam filter first. Please also check whether you might have made a mistake entering your e-mail address. For further help, please contact Customer Service.
The download does not work. What can I do?
In case of difficulties, please contact Customer Service, specifying the order number, order date and affected digital edition. Please note that downloading is no longer possible if you have already downloaded the file three times. Also, the download link is only valid for a maximum of 30 days.
How many times can I download my digital editions?
Digital editions can be downloaded a maximum of three times in a 30-day period from the time of purchase.
Where can I find my digital editions after downloading?
The location of downloads depends partly on the browser and partly on individual settings on your computer. However, many browsers offer an indication of a successful download or a “Downloads” entry in your menu, which you can use to access your digital editions.
How can I use the digital editions?
The right to use digital editions refers both to digital use (e.g., on a tablet) and to the use of printouts of the digital editions. You may print, digitally use, or forward to a corresponding number of people the digital edition you purchased in the exact quantity you ordered and paid for. This number of copies will be printed on each page of the PDF. Therefore, please indicate the actual number of copies required in your order. If you have purchased only one copy of a digital edition, you can use it either digitally on your tablet (smartphone, computer) or as a one-time printout.
There are three ways to use digital editions of which you have purchased multiple copies (e.g., for a choir):
1. digitally in the number of copies purchased
or
2. printed in the number of copies purchased
or
3. partially digitally and partially printed, whereby the acquired number of copies may not be exceeded by the two ways of utilization taken together.
Example:
You want to purchase a choral edition for 44 choristers. In this case, you have to enter the number 45 (44 choristers plus you as the choral director) in the “Copies” field for the edition and complete the purchase process. You can now use these 45 copies as follows:
1.digital use of the ordered number of copies: you forward the downloaded PDF to 44 choristers (you keep one copy yourself as choral director). The choristers sing from tablets, but are not allowed to print out the sheet music.
2.hard copies: you print the PDF of the purchased digital edition 45 times and distribute the hard copies to 44 choristers, and you keep one as the choral director yourself.
3.partially digital, partially printed: you forward the downloaded PDF to 21 choristers and print 24 copies (in case you as choral director want a printed copy). This will not exceed the purchased number of 45. Of course, you can also make 12 printouts and forward the PDF to 33 choristers or make another distribution, but the purchased number of 45 copies must not be exceeded. It is not allowed to make a printout from the PDF forwarded to the 33 choristers – neither for the choral director nor for the 33 choristers.
Important notes:
Bitte leiten Sie niemals die E-Mail mit den Download-Links weiter. Laden Sie sich die Please never forward the e-mail with the download links. Download the file, and then send a new e-mail with the downloaded file attached. Background: The download link can only be used three times in total. Also, advise the recipients (e.g., the members of your choir or ensemble) of the usage rights and that the file may be used by the individual either digitally or as a printout. After a printout of the PDF has been produced, the file must be deleted from the end device.
Do I need special software to use the digital editions?
You need software for viewing PDF files, i.e., Acrobat Reader or comparable software.
How do I know it's a legal printout/download?
Digital editions are marked with visible personalized information (name, postal codes, country, and transaction ID). These are located on the outer edges of each page of the digital edition and do not interfere with the usability of the edition.
In addition, the files are protected with an invisible watermark that allows us to track down files illegally distributed on the Internet and trace them back to the buyer.
